General Information

DeKalb County contains nearly a fifth of the businesses located in Metro Atlanta's 20 counties. In 2005 nearly 25,000 businesses were licensed in this county, employing more than 360,000 people. DeKalb's diverse industry base includes strong presence in manufacturing, retail, construction, trade, finance, engineering, and management. More than half of the FORTUNE 500 companies with a presence in Atlanta have operations in DeKalb.

The county is also home to more than 150 international facilities, or more that 15 percent of the metro Atlanta total.

Businesses have good reasons to come to DeKalb. The State of Georgia and DeKalb County offer a variety of tax exemptions and expansion incentives to new business and industry. Such incentives include:

The Job Tax Credit- businesses that relocate to DeKalb or expand into DeKalb get tax credits for creating new jobs

The Investment Tax Credit- the State of Georgia offers a 1% tax credit for manufacturers and telecommunications firms that make capital investments

Corporate Headquarters Tax Credit- A company that relocates or establishes its headquarters in Georgia will enjoy newly created options and credits

Targeted Sales Tax Exemptions- new, targeted incentives designed to encourage growth in traditional manufacturing and high-tech industries

Retraining Tax Credit- Offers tax credits for businesses that provide retraining for employees

Child Care Credit- Offers tax credits for employers who provide or sponsor child care
